The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. 
At present TISS provides 52 types of post graduation courses in a different centers.It provides the following specialization course in social work domain.

  • The Department of Social Work (earlier known as the Delhi School of Social Work) has the distinction of being the first institution in Asia to offer a Master’s Degree in Social Work and draws students from different parts of India and Universities abroad for all its courses.   • Loyola College of Social Sciences was founded by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1963, the College offers courses in M A (Sociology), MSW (Masters in Social Work), MAHRM (Masters in Human Resource Management) and MSc Counselling Psychology. The College is affiliated to the University of Kerala and is a recognized Research Centre of the University. 10- Roda Mistry college of social work & Research Center 

  • The College of Social Work was started by Indian Council of Social Welfare (ICSW-AP) in the year 1966. During the five decades of its existence, it has developed into one of the leading social work institutions of the country, now offering BSW, MSW and Ph.D. courses. The college is affiliated to Osmania University.
11-Tirpude college of social work 
  • Tirpude College of Social Work is established under the auspices of Yugantar Education Society, Nagpur which is a premier, nongovernmental, philanthropic organization in central India devoted and dedicated to the field of social work training and education especially among the people belonging to the lower strata of society.
  • Tirpude College of Social Work is accredited twice with “A” grade and re accredited with "A+" Grade in the third cycle by NACC, Bangalore, and is one of the pioneer Institutes affiliated to R.T.M. Nagpur University.
12.Madras Christian College 
  • Madras Christian College traces its origin to the General Assembly School founded by the Rev. John Anderson, a Missionary from the Church of Scotland on 3rd April 1837. Anderson was a pioneer in introducing English medium education in South India. He was ably assisted by Rev. Johnston, Rev. Braidwood and Margaret Locher Anderson. Rev. William Miller who arrived in 1862 upgraded the school to a college by adding F.A. and B.A., courses in 1865 and 1867. 
The Nims University Rajasthan, Jaipur Act, 2008 enacted by the Government of Rajasthan, and duly recognized by the UGC as well as apex level regulatory councils.the Nims University has emerged as the largest and best self-financed university in North-India. 14. Bharati Bidyapith (Social Science Center)
The Social Sciences Center of Bharati Vidyapeeth was established in 1981-82 as a Post-Graduate Research and Training Centre to conduct, organize and undertake specialized studies in the field of Social Sciences. The Social Sciences Centre is a grant in aid Institution under the Directorate of Social Welfare, Govt. of Maharashtra. The specific objective of the centre is to impart education for the practice of professional social work leading to the post-graduate degree in social work viz. Master of Social Work (M.S.W.). The M.S.W. Course is recognized by the Directorate of Social Welfare Govt.of Maharashtra.
